The Independent Film Channel (IFC) and Comcast Digital present two screenings of IFC’s original film, Our Song at the 9th Annual Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema. The screenings will take place on May 7 at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM at the Ritz Theater East at 2nd and Sansom Streets.
Following each screening, the film’s director, Jim McKay, as well as leading members of the cast, will be on hand for a Q&A about the film. As an added bonus, Philadelphia’s own, The Stepping Band will perform live at Welcome Park, adjacent to the theater, between the two screenings.
Our Song is the second feature directed by Jim McKay, who won a Special Jury award at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival for his first effort, Girls Town. The film follows three Brooklyn teens for one summer as they confront the trials and tribulations that accompany their adolescence. McKay deliberately credits everyone involved as playing an equal role in the film’s creation and the moving performances of the three young actresses are all the more astounding as none of them have ever appeared onscreen before.
Advance tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased by calling UpStages at (215) 569 – 9700 or (609) 342 – 6535. Tickets on the day of the show are available at the theater and are $8.00. As part of the festival’s closing night, IFC and Comcast Digital will also host a reception from 6:30-10:30 PM at The Five Spot at 5 South Bank Street in Philadelphia. Admission to the reception is $25.00 and is open to the public.
