American Movie Classics Premieres New Programming Block ‘Critic’s Pics’ Every Thursday Night


Weekly Prime Time Strip Hosted by Top Film Critics Roger Ebert & Richard Roeper, Jeffrey Lyons, Joel Siegel, Janet Maslin and Peter Travers

BETHPAGE, N.Y., December 22, 2000 — Five of the country’s most esteemed film critics will host the new programming block CRITIC’S PICS on AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS beginning January 4, it was announced today by Marc Juris, Senior Vice President of Original Programming, Packaging and Production. Critics Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper, Jeffrey Lyons, Joel Siegel, Janet Maslin, and Peter Travers will introduce critically acclaimed films on AMC every Thursday night at 8:00 PM (ET).

“The unique perspectives these film experts bring to AMC is invaluable” said Juris. “Their distinctive voices and knowledge about the art of filmmaking reinforces AMC’s goal to giving viewers great movies and the stories behind them.”

Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper are hosts of Buena Vista’s “Ebert & Roeper and the Movies.” Jeffrey Lyons, film critic with WNBC-TV, also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show and is the former host of “Sneak Previews.” Joel Siegel is the film critic at GOOD MORNING AMERICA. Janet Maslin has been reviewing films for the The New York Times since 1977; she served as the lead critic from 1994 through 1999, and continues to work as a contributing writer for the paper. Peter Travers is the film critic with Rolling Stone. The selected critics will rotate hosting duties as they introduce a different film

every Thursday evening. The films will include: THE GODFATHER, IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT, KING OF COMEDY, THE NATURAL, GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER, ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, AFRICAN QUEEN, CHARADE, RACING WITH THE MOON, THE LONGEST DAY and SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS.
