CINCINNATI –
FOX Sports Net, Time Warner Cable and Cincinnati Reds catcher, Eddie Taubensee, have teamed up together for the “Stay In School Challenge,” a program designed to reward students with prefect school attendance.
The “Stay In School Challenge” is a program designed to encourage students to go to school as well as reward the students that are in school. The “Stay In School Challenge” is simple. Students in grades 7-12 from participating schools send in a copy of their perfect attendance record (no unexcused absences) from March 6 – May 5, 2000, to FOX Sports Net and, in return, receive a pair of complimentary tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game this summer.
In addition to attending a Cincinnati Reds game, the school with the highest percentage of perfect attendance will receive special recognition at the game, complete with the principal throwing out the first pitch.
Catcher Eddie Taubensee of the Cincinnati Reds is the spokesperson for the “Stay In School Challenge” as it kicks-off its first year with the Cincinnati Public Schools (9-12), Franklin City Schools (7-12), Hamilton City Schools (7-12), Lakota Local Schools (7-12), and Middletown/Monroe School District (7-12).
“This is a terrific program,” said Taubensee. “Any time we as professional athletes can support a program that helps kids in the community, it’s an opportunity that we cannot pass up.”
“The Stay In School Challenge is a program that will have a very positive impact on kids. Time Warner Cable believes that investing in the youth of today is necessary to further the growth of the community in which we live,” said Virgil Reed, president of the Cincinnati Division of Time Warner Cable.
“FOX Sports Net is proud to team up with Time Warner Cable and the Cincinnati Reds to launch the Stay In School Challenge,” said Steve Liverani, senior vice president and general manager, FOX Sports Net. “We hope to reinforce the message that staying in school is important to achieving a successful future.”
The “Stay In School Challenge” was created in 1996 by the FOX Sports Net affiliate in San Francisco. In 1997, it was the recipient of the prestigious 1997 Beacon Award from Cable Television Public Affairs Association, a national organization of cable operators, programmers, state associations and suppliers devoted to developing and promoting excellence in public affairs. |
