Beginning Monday, October 23 through Friday, October 27, a nightly festival of films, showcasing women on the verge will provide the perfect self-medication to sooth your nearly-shattered nerves. Monday, October 23 — Vertigo, starring James Stewart and Kim Novak.
In this Alfred Hitchcock classic, Kim Novak is a beautiful, aloof and mysterious ‘woman on the verge’ involved in an intricate murder plot. James Stewart is a retired police detective, with a fear of heights, who is hired by his old high school chum to keep an eye on his wife (Novak).
Tuesday, October 24 — All About Eve, starring Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and Celeste Holm.
When aging movie star Margo Channing (Bette Davis) becomes close to a young fan, Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter), she finds the young woman is trying to overtake her life and destroy her career while she ruthlessly climbs up the ladder in the glamorous world of theater.
Wednesday, October 25 — What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?, starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
This is the ultimate ‘women on the verge’ competition — an aging invalid (Joan Crawford) is driven to the brink of insanity by her cruel caretaker, her ex-child star sister (Bette Davis).
Thursday, October 26 — Sunset Boulevard, starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson.
This legendary comedy tells the story of down-on-his-luck screenwriter, Joe Gillis (William Holden) who breaks down on Hollywood Boulevard and stumbles across faded silent-film star Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), the Queen of all ‘women on the verge.’
Friday, October 27 — The Out-Of-Towners, starring Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis.
In this Neil Simon comedy, Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis star as a couple from Ohio who slowly are driven over the edge during a visit to New York where everything goes wrong.
