New York, NY (January 18, 2006) – IFC Films has acquired the autobiographical comedy I AM A SEX ADDICT which was written and directed by Caveh Zahedi and Cedric Klapisch's RUSSIAN DOLLS which is the follow up to his well received The Spanish Apartment. The announcement was made today by IFC Entertainment President Jonathan Sehring.
"These two works represent a divergent spectrum of films and filmmaking and we are proud to bring these two richly engaging films to IFC," commented Sehring. "Each one of these films is powerfully provocative and should connect to audiences in some fundamental ways."
The autobiographical comedy I AM A SEX ADDICT details the life of an insecure young man who becomes addicted to prostitutes, and finds himself unable to stop even though it destroys all of his relationships. He decides to make a movie about his predicament resulting in this very original film which premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival. Written and directed by Caveh Zahedi, I AM A SEX ADDICT won a 2005 Gotham Award.
Cedric Klapisch returns to the adventures of several of the Barcelona flat mates from his darkly humorous hit The Spanish Apartment with RUSSIAN DOLLS. Romain Duris stars as the aimless aspiring novelist Xavier whose greatest achievement is a co-credit on an over-the-top TV soap. His romantic life is equally disappointing, consisting of one-night stands and unfinished romances until a chance meeting promises an answer to both his career slump and love life. RUSSIAN DOLLS was written and directed by Klapisch and also stars Audrey Tautou and Kelly Reilly.
Sehring and IFC's VP of Acquisitions Sarah Lash, negotiated the deal for all media in North America for I AM A SEX ADDICT with John Sloss and Liesl Copland of Cinetic Media on behalf of the filmmakers. The deal for RUSSIAN DOLLS was negotiated with John Kochman of Studio Canal.
Release dates have not been set at this time.
