New York, New York – December 20, 2007 – On the heels of AMC receiving two Golden Globe® nominations for its original drama series Mad Men, the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Award® Nominations were announced this morning where the series was recognized in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series which includes: Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Robert Morse, Michael Gladis, Aaron Staton, Rich Sommer, Bryan Batt, Maggie Siff, and Anne Dudek.

The following is a statement on behalf of AMC Executive Vice President and General Manager Charlie Collier:

"We want to thank the Screen Actors Guild for these prestigious nominations and congratulate the entire Mad Men cast and crew for all the hard work they have put forth to make this series a breakout one in 2007. The performances of lead actor Jon Hamm and the truly talented ensemble have taken the brilliant characters created by Matthew Weiner and translated them into dynamic personalities that result in outstanding, compelling television.

"AMC's mission is to build high quality programming that can stand side by side our library of the best films of all time. The recent accolades Mad Men has received reaffirms the network's strategy and elevates our mission as a whole. We are defining The Future of Classic."

Mad Men was also honored last week with two Golden Globe® nominations for Best Television Series, Drama and for Best Lead Actor in a Dramatic Television Series for Jon Hamm. In addition to the Golden Globe nominations, the Writers Guild Association nominated AMC's Mad Men in the following categories: Best Dramatic Series, Best New Series, and Best Episodic Drama.

The series created by Matthew Weiner, is a smart and cinematic drama about the professional lives, social mores and sexual exploits of advertising executives on Madison Avenue circa 1960, when the industry was at its height of glamour, power, and prestige. The setting is the Sterling Cooper agency, which sells everything from cigarettes to political candidates. The protagonist, Don Draper, is a fast-rising creative director whose smooth exterior conceals any number of secrets. The show's cast includes: Jon Hamm ('We Were Soldiers'), Elisabeth Moss ('West Wing'), Vincent Kartheiser ('Angel'), January Jones ('American Wedding'), and Christina Hendricks ('Kevin Hill'), as well as guest star John Slattery ('K Street', 'Sex and the City'). Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, produces the series with AMC's Vlad Wolynetz, Vice President of Production, Series and Movies, and Christina Wayne, Vice President of Scripted Series and Movies, overseeing the development and production of the drama.

Mad Men served as AMC's first ever foray into original scripted series and received unprecedented accolades from the press including being deemed "the smartest and the most compelling television show of the year" by GQ. In September the network announced that it has renewed the series for a second season which will premiere in the summer of 2008. Continuing its original programming momentum, AMC will premiere its newest original series, Breaking Bad, on January 20 at 10PM ET/PT/9C. The series is created by Vince Gilligan (X-Files) and follows the story of a desperate man, played by Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle), who turns to a life of crime to secure his family's financial security.

In 2006, AMC received three Golden Globe nominations for the network's first ever original movie-event Broken Trail. The miniseries starring Robert Duvall and Thomas Hayden Church went on to garner several industry awards including four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor, and Outstanding Casting for a Miniseries.
