Penny Revolution slated to premiere
on Equator HD
New York, NY – January 8, 2007 – VOOM HD Networks, the largest and most diverse suite of HD channels nationwide and currently available on DISH Network, announced today they are working with UK distribution company Electric Sky to co-produce two new original high-definition series. Both series contribute to VOOM’s growing library of original HD content. GALLERY HD and Equator HD are two of the fifteen VOOM HD Networks, with programming ranging from sports, fashion and music to movies, documentaries and animation.
What the Window Washer Saw, takes viewers out onto the hanging platforms to get a fresh perspective on some of the boldest and most ambitious examples of architecture; from the ancient and historic to the recent and risky. The series is slated to premiere in the third quarter of 2007 on GALLERY HD. Penny Revolution documents the world of microfinance, where the desperately poor with entrepreneurial dreams but not the financial means, meet the lenders who help put their plans in action. The series is slated to premiere in the fourth quarter of 2007 on Equator HD.
“VOOM is committed to providing original programming that maximizes the HD medium, spanning all different genres and interests, filling a void in the marketplace for compelling HD content,” said Greg Moyer, General Manager of VOOM HD Networks. “VOOM is at the forefront of creating very high quality niche content, and as programmers we are always looking to align ourselves with production companies that have a similar point of view on creating entertaining, original productions.”
Following is additional information on VOOM’s two new original series:
- What the Window Washer Saw,
(documentary series, 10 episodes, 1/2 hour, GALLERY HD)
What the Window Washer Saw features hosts and architects Charlie Luxton and Keith Keaveney as they introduce viewers to an iconic addition to the skyline in some of the world’s greatest cities. The window washer lets the audience in on lesser-known secrets of each building and its construction, stories of life within – witnessed from the windows – and an insight on how each city’s landscape has changed over the years. Destinations include the Sears Towers in Chicago, the Two International Finance Centre in Hong Kong and the Twisting Torso in Sweden. - Penny Revolution,
(documentary series, 9 episodes, 1 hour, Equator HD)
Penny Revolution documents five young entrepreneurs and five desperately poor women who all have a vision of a better life. The audience witnesses two struggles – the entrepreneurs as they raise capital to begin their microfinance program and the borrowers who strive to put their plans in action using loans as small as $300. With success and failure, parallels are revealed, myths about poverty are challenged and the participants discover the truth about themselves.
VOOM HD has collaborated with Electric Sky in the past for several series including Fashion Avenue and Big Boutique in the City on Ultra HD and Ultimate Tourist Scams on Equator HD.
