The Original Series Premieres December 2007
LOS ANGELES, CA July 15, 2007 – WE tv goes on a whirlwind chase with two maverick women who pursue Mother Nature's dangerous twisters in it's newest true-life series, TWISTER SISTERS. The six-part, one-hour weekly series follows Melanie Metz and Peggy Willenberg, two of America's foremost severe weather experts, as they travel across the Great Plains in search of the biggest and baddest tornadoes. TWISTER SISTERS, WE tv's up close and personal look into the unique world of female storm chasers, premieres December 2007.
Tornadoes are nature's most violent and destructive atmospheric phenomenon. With wind speeds of up to 300 miles per hour, these rotating columns of air can embed fence posts into trees, throw railroad cars around like toys and turn entire towns into rubble in under a minute. About a thousand of them touch down in the United States each year, a huge percentage in a region extending from Texas up to South Dakota that is known as "Tornado Alley." Peggy Willenberg and Melanie Metz are partners in the "Twister Sisters Tornado Tour Company." Every May they kiss their husbands and families goodbye and head out on the road for their annual pilgrimage across the Plains states, to brave high winds, giant hail and flying debris. While most people would flee or take cover, these daring voyeurs put themselves directly in the path of monstrous tornados for the sake of important research and just for the thrill of it all! Peggy and Melanie challenge the vocational stereotypes of women and offer a unique perspective on the turmoil and devastation they encounter.
In TWISTER SISTERS, Peggy and Melanie are often joined by amateur and professional tornado hunters who like them, are part of an exclusive subculture of extreme weather enthusiasts who take pleasure in observing what happens when a spectacle in the sky meets drama on the ground. TWISTER SISTERS is produced by Original Productions (also produces Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Catch).
