Star Édgar Ramírez and Director Olivier Assayas Garner Nods

New York, July 14, 2011—The Director and Star of Sundance Channel’s first foray into original scripted programming, "Carlos" have garnered two prestigious Primetime Emmy® nominations it was announced today by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Among those receiving nominations are:

Édgar Ramírez – Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie

Olivier Assayas – Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special

This is the first Emmy nomination for both Ramírez and Assayas.

"We’re deeply honored that the Academy has recognized our first original scripted effort," said Sarah Barnett, Sundance Channel GM. "These nominations reinforce our commitment to provide a home on television for authentic, independent-minded stories. We congratulate Édgar and Olivier whose amazing work created this ground-breaking piece of television."

"Carlos," which received the Golden Globe® for Original Mini Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, originally aired in October 2010 as a three-part programming event. The epic mini-series by award-winning filmmaker Olivier Assayas (Summer Hours) and starring Édgar Ramírez (Bourne Ultimatum, Che) provided a definitive portrait of the infamous international terrorist Carlos the Jackal who masterminded a wave of terror attacks in Europe and the Middle East in the ’70s and ’80s.  Ramírez also received nominations for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award® this past year for his performance, which Karen Durbin of the New York Times described as “mesmerizing precisely because he doesn’t play Carlos as a monster; the more human he is, the closer we are to him, which is a shocking sensation.”

CARLOS is produced by Daniel Leconte/Film en Stock with the participation of Canal Plus and ARTE in association with Sundance Channel, co-produced by Egoli Tossel.
