NEW YORK, August 1, 2013 — This August, Sundance Channel invites viewers to bust out their white polyester disco suits and black feathered leotards for a “Decades” summer movie marathon, celebrating the films that accompanied and maybe shaped our journey to adulthood. Beginning Monday August 5th, the network will spotlight some of the pop culture classics from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. From “follow the money” to “greed is good,” from “lick my love pump” to “the greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return,” all the memorable moments, shifting mores, and movie magic from the films that defined our decades.
“Decades” month kicks off at the disco on August 5th with 70’s perennial favorite Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta. During the week of August 12th, relive the angst of high school with Winona Ryder in the seminal cult classic Heathers.Next up, viewers canexperience the highs and lows of post-college life with the gang from St. Elmo’s Fire, and then reunite with old friends in the emotionally immersive The Big Chill. Beginning August 19th, ‘90s week honors amazing acting with Tom Hanks’ Academy Award® winning turn as an AIDS patient fighting for his rights in Philadelphia as well as Kevin Spacey’s captivating performance in the neo-noir classic The Usual Suspects. The marathon concludes the week of August 26th and features some true fan favorites from the 2000’s including Natalie Portman’s Academy Award® winning role in Black Swan and the ever-popular star-studded romantic comedy, Love Actually.
