Film Premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight Section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival
CANNES, FRANCE (May 20, 2015) – IFC Films announced today from the 2015 Cannes Film Festival that the company is acquiring U.S. rights from WestEnd Films to Fernando León de Aranoa’s A PERFECT DAY. The film, directed by León de Aranoa with a screenplay by León de Aranoa in collaboration with Diego Farias, stars Benicio del Toro, Tim Robbins, Olga Kurylenko, Mélanie Thierry and Fedja Stukan. The film was produced by Fernando León de Aranoa of Reposado and Jaume Roures of MediaPro and executive produced by Patricia de Muns and Javier Méndez. A PERFECT DAY had its world premiere this week at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
In the film, a group of aid workers tries to resolve a crisis in an armed conflict zone: Sophie (Thierry) is a newcomer, she wants to help; Mambrú (Del Toro) has seen it all and wants to go home; Katya (Kurylenko) once wanted Mambrú; Damir (Stukan) wants the war to end, and B (Robbins) doesn’t know what he wants. Humor, drama, emotion, routine, danger, hope: it all fits in a perfect day.
“León de Aranoa has delivered an excellent English-language debut that demonstrates his rare gift for imbuing gritty subject matter with compassion and droll humor. We are thrilled to be bringing his film to U.S. audiences,” says Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films.
The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, SVP of Acquisitions from Sundance Selects/IFC Films, with Eve Schoukroun, MD of WestEnd Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
