FIVE FILMMAKERS. ONE TOPIC. FIVE MINUTES.
HEADING INTO 2016 U.S. PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS, THE TOPICAL FILMS WILL EXPLORE “JUSTICE IN AMERICA
November 19, 2015 (New York, NY) – SundanceNow Doc Club (www.docclub.com), the boutique, ad-free and global streaming video on demand service dedicated to documentaries, is launching “Take 5,” a 5-minute short film series. Set to launch in early 2016, “Take 5” will consist of capsule collections of 5-minute documentaries, with each collection exploring a single timely topic, geared to starting public conversation and honoring diverse points of view.
Production is already well underway on the series’ first collection, which will include five films, each of which explores an aspect of “Justice in America,” with topics tying into issues being debated as the country turns its attention to the 2016 Presidential election.
For “Take 5: Justice in America,” Doc Club has commissioned work from some of today’s most talented and visionary documentarians, including: Nelson George; the team of Sheena Joyce & Don Argott; Razan Ghalayini; Rachel Lears; and Sheldon Candis.
The inaugural collection of films will explore: the working poor; gentrification; prison and bail reform; voting rights; and race and gun violence.
All the films will be available and shareable for free, to both Doc Club members and the general public.
“The ‘Take 5’ short film series anchors Doc Club’s commitment to documentary filmmakers, and to storytelling that makes an impact,” said Marcus Lee, General Manager of SundanceNow Doc Club. “We love the power of short-form content and the potential for 5-minute films to cut through the rhetoric and get to the heart of a big topic in a moving, incisive and provocative way.”
“‘Take 5’ is a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers to tell stories on issues we’re passionate about,” said filmmaker Nelson George. “The 5-minute format is accessible via digital and social media, which allows us to get in front of a broad audience and initiate discussions around these important issues,” he continued. “I’m excited to be a part of this.”
