SundanceTV’S upcoming true crime documentary series “Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders,” will premiere as a two-night event beginning Saturday, November 18th at 9/8c. The docu-series – produced and directed by acclaimed filmmaker, Joe Berlinger – focuses on the brutal murder of the Clutter family in a small Kansas town in 1959, the resulting investigation, convictions and executions of Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, chronicled in Truman Capote’s landmark book, In Cold Blood.
SundanceTV’s “True Crime Weekend” marathon will feature the digitally restored film version of Capote’s book, In Cold Blood, starring Robert Blake and Scott Wilson. The film, directed by Richard Brooks, garnered four Academy Award nominations and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Other movies that will air during this marathon include Murder in the First, Infamous, Summer of Sam, Bonnie and Clyde, Zodiac and more.
“Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders,” is an AMC Studios, RadicalMedia and Third Eye Motion Picture Company production, executive produced and directed by Joe Berlinger. Kahane Cooperman serves as executive producer, Allison Berg as series producer and Keven McAlester as producer. Jon Kamen, Justin Wilkes, and Jon Doran are executive producers for RadicalMedia. Allison Berg and Kahane Cooperman also serve as episode directors along with Joe Berlinger.

The 1983 film, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Village Voice article “Death of a Playmate,” chronicles the rapid rise and tragic fall of Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten, played by Mariel Hemingway. When high school beauty Dorothy meets shady Paul Snider (Eric Roberts), the pair instantly hit it off – marrying and Paul becoming Dorothy’s manager. Under Paul’s influence, Dorothy gains fame as a model and begins to pursue an acting career. With Dorothy’s career taking off, Paul’s jealousy also continues to rise, and the couple’s fate is ultimately doomed.

Summer of Sam: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET
During the summer of 1977, a killer known as the Son of Sam keeps New York City on edge with a series of brutal murders. In the Italian-American Bronx neighborhood, the philandering Vinny (John Leguizamo) unwittingly almost becomes a victim of the psychopath, and soon he and numerous people in his circle – including his wife, Dionna (Mira Sorvino), his punk-rocker childhood friend, Ritchie (Adrien Brody) and local promiscuous girl Ruby (Jennifer Esposito) – are trying to figure out the identity of the killer, before it’s too late.

JFK: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM ET
The acclaimed drama dives into the investigation of the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy that shocked the world. New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner) discovers there’s more to the Kennedy murder. He is convinced there are flaws in the brisk investigation of Lee Harvey Oswald (Gary Oldman), and sets out to close the case, focusing on the shady activities of local businessman Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones). The film won two of the eight Academy Awards for which it was nominated.

Bonnie and Clyde: 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM ET
Based loosely on real life events, small-time crook Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty) falls in love with bored, small-town girl Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway). Together, they embark on a violent crime spree – from petty theft to bank robbery, but tensions between the couple and the other members of their gang – dim-witted gas station attendant and driver C.W. (Michael J. Pollard), Clyde’s suave older brother Buck (Gene Hackman) and Buck’s shrill wife, Blanche (Estelle Parsons) – could destroy them all. The film received Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Cinematography, and received eight other Academy Award nominations.

Zodiac: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM ET
Based on the true story of the notorious serial killer, Zodiac, that struck fear into the residents of San Francisco during the late 1960s and 1970s. Obsessed with the case, local cartoonist (Jake Gyllenhaal) becomes an amateur detective, alongside crime reporter Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.), both hoping to reveal the killer’s identity and bringing him to justice. Meanwhile, Zodiac claims victim after victim and taunts the investigators (Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards) with cryptic messages, cyphers and menacing phone calls.

Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders Pt 1: 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM ET
Goodfellas: 11:00 PM – 2:00 AM ET
The classic mobster crime film, an adaptation of Nicolas Pileggi’s best-selling novel Wiseguy, centers around Henry Hill’s (Ray Liotta) rise and fall within the mob. After idolizing ‘wise guys’ growing up in his Brooklyn neighborhood, Henry starts hanging around the mobsters and is mentored by Jimmy (Robert DeNiro), ultimately working his way up the ranks alongside his partner Tommy (Joe Pesci). However, his ascension starts to unravel after making a few mistakes and he soon finds himself wanted by both the feds and the mob. The film garnered six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Joe Pesci won for Best Supporting Actor.

Based on a 1997 book by George Plimpton, the drama tells the story of author Truman Capote’s (Toby Jones), research for his landmark true-crime novel, In Cold Blood. While in Kansas, and alongside his childhood friend Harper Lee (Sandra Bullock), Capote begins to develop and intense and precarious relationship with convicted killer Perry Smith (Daniel Craig).
Directed by Douglas McGrath, 2006.
Murder in the First: 4:30 AM ET – 7:30 AM ET
Based loosely on the life of Henri Young (Kevin Bacon), who is a small-time criminal that is sent to Alcatraz. After an escape attempt is foiled, as punishment, he’s put in solitary confinement – for three years – alone, cold and in complete darkness. Upon release back to the general population, he emerges a madman and a murderer. On trial for first degree murder, it’s an eager and naïve public defender, James Stamphill (Christian Slater), who proves Alcatraz is to blame and that Henri should not be executed.
