NEW YORK – November 4, 2024 – Acorn TV’s fan-favorite detective crime drama Dalgliesh returns exclusively on Monday, December 2 in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The third season, consisting of six episodes, is based on three of the novels from P.D. James’ bestselling murder mystery series, “Adam Dalgliesh Mystery,” with SAG® Award-nominee Bertie Carvel (The Crown, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell) reprising his role as the enigmatic titular investigator. Season 3 is made up of three distinct mysteries, each two episodes long, with the first, “Death in Holy Orders,” premiering on Monday, December 2, the second, “Cover Her Face,” which marks Carvel’s directorial debut, premiering on Monday, December 9, and the third, “Devices and Desires,” premiering on Monday, December 16.
Season 3 of the intriguing series is set in 1979 on the cusp of Margaret Thatcher’s victory and sees Commander Adam Dalgliesh (Carvel) take on three highly sensitive cases – from a remote seminary already mired in scandal, to a wealthy family under political attack, and to a spate of killings at a nuclear power station.
Carlyss Peer (The Crown, Doctors) and Alistair Brammer (House of the Dragon, The Watchers) both return to the series as Detective Sergeants (DS) Kate Miskin and Daniel Tarrant, respectively. The prominent guest stars this season include Anton Lesser (Endeavour), Lloyd Owen (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Claire Goose (Silverpoint), Liz White (The Long Shadow), Adam James (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Richard Lintern (Silent Witness), Ellora Torchia (The Gold), Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London), Soni Razdan (War) and Josie Walker (Belfast).
Acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Helen Edmundson (The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, An Inspector Calls, Small Island) returns as lead writer and executive producer for the third season with Colette Kane (Temple, Moving On, Department Q) joining as writer for “Death in Holy Orders” and Kam Odedra (Lupin, Hijack, Whitstable Pearl) for “Cover Her Face.” Geoff Sax (Us, Endeavour, Victoria) returns to direct “Death in Holy Orders,” Bertie Carvel makes his directorial debut with “Cover Her Face” and Roger Goldby (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Finding Alice, The Durrells) directs “Devices and Desires.” Leon McGeown-Fee (London Kills, Hope Street) produces the series with Elaine Pyke, Willow Grylls and Carvel serving as Executive Producers for New Pictures. New Pictures, an All3Media company, produces the series with additional funding from Northern Ireland Screen.
Dalgliesh is an Acorn TV Original Series with All3Media International handling the distribution. The series is executive produced by Catherine Mackin and Bea Tammer for Acorn TV and commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer, UK, Paramount.

Commander Dalgliesh heads to a seminary in West Sussex to investigate the bloody murder of a senior churchman. He finds that nearly everyone here had a personal grievance with the victim. And several of them are lying.

A second death shakes the order. As Commander Dalgliesh uncovers a secret agenda on the part of one of his suspects, the seminary falls further into disrepute. But perhaps this is the very key to unlocking the killer’s motive.
Episode 3 – “Cover Her Face, Part 1” – Premieres Monday, December 9 on Acorn TV
A murder in the house of an influential family brings Commander Dalgliesh to the heart of Essex. As he considers the prospect of a politically motivated attack, a local man comes forward with an explosive allegation.

Through a pair of grueling interrogations, the victim’s life comes into sharper focus, but will it lead the police to their killer? After a shocking confession is made, Dalgliesh realizes he has been lied to.
