LOS ANGELES, CA, July 8, 2003 — AMC will take the already surreal world of celebrity entertainment news shows several strides further into the absurd with the THE WRONG COAST, its first original animated series produced by Blueprint Entertainment. AMC’s new weekly series, premiering December 3 at 10:00 PM ET/PT, brings together the unique talents of actor Mark Hamill (“The Joker in Batman Beyond, “Hobgoblin” in Spider-Man, and, of course, Luke Skywalker in Star Wars), the groundbreaking stop-motion animation of Toronto-based Cuppa Coffee and some of the edgiest comedy writers on television, including head writer Glenn Eichler of Beavis & Butthead and Daria and A.D. Miles of Girl Go Boom.
This outrageous new stop-motion series is an animated parody of a Hollywood magazine show, a la Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight, where all the movies and TV shows featured are a just a bit off center. The show’s main focus is spirited parodies of what-if movie and TV concepts (Six Feet Undercover Brother, American Booty, Doggie Nights and M. Night Shamalyn’s Dead and Deader), coupled with the requisite star interviews, film premiere coverage and tours of the garbage cans of the famous. Between these segments, the show will delve into the on-air and off-screen antics of the hosts and
their crew.
“This series is about as much fun as we can legally have at the expense of today’s movies and obsession with celebrity culture,” said Rob Sorcher, Senior Vice President, Programming and Production, AMC. “It’s the visual equivalent of sitting around and riffing on Hollywood, but it’s so much funnier when visualized with animated parodies. This collaboration is truly a breath of fresh air in a sketch series that could never happen with a live cast.”
“We’re thrilled to be working with AMC on THE WRONG COAST,” said John Morayniss, co-founder of Blueprint Entertainment. “This series allows us to bring to animated life Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, J. Lo and Drew Barrymore. This is truly an off-kilter and twisted world realized through the unique look of stop motion animation, the talent of our writing team and the incredible voice work of Mark Hamill.”
THE WRONG COAST is produced for AMC by Blueprint Entertainment, in association with Curious Pictures. Executive producers include John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern.
