New York, NY – March 14, 2011 – AMC and Random House announced today that the two companies are launching a unique co-promotional campaign. The promotion is tied to the premiere of AMC’s next original series, "The Killing" and the release of #1 New York Times bestselling crime novelist Lisa Gardner next novel, "Love You More." Both tap into the crime drama genre. From writer, executive producer and series’ showrunner Veena Sud ("Cold Case"), "The Killing" tells the story of the murder of a teenage girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation. The series premieres on AMC on Sunday, April 3rd at 9PM EST.
The multi-tiered campaign includes presence on the eBook edition of Gardner’s novel, "Love You More" via a burst that features tune-in messaging for the series. E-reader copies feature a glimpse of the unreleased script of "The Killing" through special excerpts at the end. In exchange, Random House / Lisa Gardner, "Love You More" receive tagged tune-ins on-air promoting the release of Lisa Gardner’s book, "Love You More." Online at amctv.com, Random House receives a blog post on amctv.com promoting the launch of her book, and banners running on the AMC homepage and throughout "The Killing" micro-site.
"Co-branding with Random House is a perfect tie-in that taps into an already engaged audience," said Theresa Beyer, AMC’s VP of activation and promotion.
The campaign also includes presence in over 5000 book clubs countrywide. Each club receives a kit containing the following items: a DVD holding a special extended 5-minute preview of "The Killing," keepsake bookmarks featuring HDTV sweepstakes, a set of book club leader instructions and an introductory note from AMC’s president Charlie Collier. There is also a qualified sweepstakes overlay, which awards one lucky club with $2,500 to be used to cover club costs. Entrants fill out a survey from the leader instructions kit.
Based on the successful Danish television series "Forbrydelsen," "The Killing" weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family, and the local politicians connected to the case. As "The Killing" unfolds, it becomes clear that there are no accidents; everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they have moved on, their past still lingers.
