New York, NY – March 14, 2011 – AMC announced today a unique promotional campaign leading up to the premiere of the network’s newest original series, "The Killing." Launching today and running through the premiere of the series, on Sunday, April 3rd at 9PM EST, AMC’s series is featured throughout all Hudson News locations nationwide. From writer, executive producer and series’ showrunner Veena Sud ("Cold Case"), "The Killing" tells the story of the murder of a teenage girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation.
"’The Killing’ is crime genre storytelling at its best and it’s certainly appealing to our customers that enjoy mystery novels," said Sara Hinckley, Vice President, book buying & promotion for Hudson Booksellers. "This program taps into an audience that already enjoys suspense, crime, and thrillers. So this co-promotion makes perfect sense for our business."
"Hudson News is the only national newsstand brand in North America, operating stores in high-traffic areas, including in airports, train terminals and bus stations. To have presence in this type of footprint is a terrific branding opportunity for ’The Killing,’" said Theresa Beyer, VP of activation and promotion for AMC. "This is a perfect alignment for AMC because through Hudson News, we’re targeting consumers who love great storytelling, particularly the mystery/suspense/crime drama genres."
Over the next few weeks, and in over 335 locations, customers that enter Hudson News retail locations will experience "The Killing" through counter cards, shelf talkers, plasma screen stills, and ceiling hanging posters, buttons and branded shopping bags. The crime genre books for sale are each specially marked with a sticker that promotes to the series’ tune-in. Customers purchasing these books also receive a gift with purchase bookmark and the opportunity to participate in a sweepstakes. Prizes include a 54" plasma screen HDTV, a Blu-ray player, and a top collection of mystery DVD’s from AMC. Hudson News has on-air presence through tagged tune-ins as well as offering their customers the gift-with-purchase bookmark that helps drive sales of the mystery titles.
