JERICHO, NY, November 5, 2003 – Art has imitated life through the centuries. Since the advent of film, no subject has proved more fascinating, provoking and inspiring to filmmakers and audiences alike than war – in all its triumph, tragedy, adventure and adversity. From the earliest reflections of wartime, America's fighting men and women have been portrayed by some of the biggest stars in cinema history. This November, AMC celebrates Veterans Day and salutes the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces with its four-day "Best Vets Marathon," airing Saturday, November 8, through Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2003.
ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT launches the festival, which continues non-stop through Veterans Day, presenting films like TORA! TORA! TORA!, the dramatic account of the attack on Pearl Harbor starring Martin Balsam and Joseph Cotton; the gripping 1962 film, THE LONGEST DAY, which took a multi-layered look at D-Day; HELLCATS OF THE NAVY, the submarine saga featuring the future President and First Lady, Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis; and IN HARM'S WAY, once again starring The Duke, along with Kirk Douglas, Patricia Neal and Burgess Meredith.
Also playing throughout the festival are such classics as STALAG 17, THE BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI and many others. The Best Vets Marathon schedule follows (all times ET/PT):
