New York/Budapest, 10 October 2106 – AMC Networks International (AMCNI) – Central Europe, broadcaster of AMC in Central Europe, and Telekom Austria Group, a leading communications provider in the region, have announced an affiliate deal that secures carriage for AMC across all Telekom Austria Group pay TV subscribers in Croatia and Bulgaria. Home to original drama series Breaking Bad, Fear the Walking Dead, Better Call Saul and Into the Badlands, AMC’s localised versions will now reach substantially more Croatian and Bulgarian households.
With this long term strategic deal, AMC extends its reach to the second biggest operator in Croatia, as Telekom Austria Group launches AMC on VIPnet on 10 October 2016. In Bulgaria, AMC channel distribution will be extended to Telekom Austria Group’s Mobiltel network in addition to carriage on Blizoo.
“We have reached a long-term agreement with Telekom Austria Group that recognizes the value of AMC and its award-winning and high-quality programming,” said Balázs Hajós, AMCNI CE Regional Director Affiliate Sales. “We look forward to providing AMC’s acclaimed programming to Telekom Austria Group´s customers, such as the upcoming premiere of Halt and Catch Fire’s third season. We will also provide AMC HD to the Group in December 2016 and further extensions of the cooperation will follow in 2017.”
Season 3 of Halt and Catch Fire, which premieres in these countries on 10 October 2016, captures the rise of the PC era in the early 1980s. The series is focused on four main characters attempting to innovate against the backdrop of rapidly advancing technology.
Franz Bader, Director Wholesale International Sales at Telekom Austria Group, commented on this new agreement: “We welcome this agreement with AMC, enabling us to break through Croatian and Bulgarian boundaries and deliver new and high quality thematic content to a wider CEE region. Telekom Austria Group´s broadcasting services function as a short cut to the Pay TV world, offering these award-winning shows to a larger audience in our markets.”
For AMC, this move in Eastern Europe is the latest step in the expansion of its foot-print further in the Eastern and Central European regions, since the the channel was launched outside North America in late 2014. AMC is now on subscription television platforms in more than 125 countries and territories across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
