JERICHO, NY, March 26, 2004 – AMC's "DVD_TV" franchise continues on Sunday, May 16 with a look at the 1971 film WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, starring Gene Wilder. The film will air in its full-screen version at 6:00 PM, followed by the MUCH MORE MOVIE version at 8:00 PM.
An enduring family classic, WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is based on Roald Dahl's acclaimed original novel, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." The musical tells the story of young Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum), who manages to win a magical golden ticket that gains him entry into Willy Wonka's (Gene Wilder) mysterious candy factory. Along with four other kids, including the archetypal spoiled rich kid Veruca Salt (Julie Dawn Cole), Charlie and his uncle (Jack Albertson) embark on a musical odyssey of the whimsical, absurd and even macabre, through Wonda's dazzling factory. As each child is tested, only the most honest and true will be allowed to reach the end of the tour, winning a reward beyond his wildest dreams.
Once each month, DVD_TV taps into the cravings of movie people, offering a Sunday movie marathon populated by DVD-like extras, including original programming and rare behind the scenes footage, exclusive interviews and more. Each marathon features at least two versions of a seminal movie – the full-screen version followed by a MUCH MORE MOVIE version. MUCH MORE MOVIE is a letterbox version which provides viewers with little known facts about the movie as they appear at the bottom of the screen. It provides a rich layer of additional detail about the background players, the elements surrounding the production, the casting of the performers, the music, cinematography and much, much more.
