LOS ANGELES, CA, July 8, 2003 – With MonsterFest 2003, October 26-31, AMC will once again be the ultimate television destination for monster movie aficionados, with a six day programming line-up boasting the original special Short Screamers with Clive Barker, the world premiere of PIÑATA: SURVIVAL ISLAND and popular horror movies like AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS (1997).
AMC drives a stake through the collective mindset of horror fans with the world premiere of the original movie, PIÑATA: SURVIVAL ISLAND. This tale of a cursed piÑata that wreaks havoc on college students on a remote island stars Jaime Pressly (Joe Dirt, Tomcats, Not Just Another Teen Movie) and Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The film was written, produced and directed by David and Scott Hillenbrand. It will premiere on Sunday, October 26 at 10 pm on AMC.
AMC will team with renowned director and author Clive Barker to seek out and give national exposure to original short horror films made by aspiring directors. For the second consecutive year, AMC has contacted emerging independent film directors and industry up-and-comers, including the LA.-based "filmmaking collective," Group 101 Films, to solicit original horror shorts for MonsterFest. Dozens of these innovative, and wildly creative shorts, each approximately one-minute in length, will air interstitially throughout MonsterFest and online at the network's website, www.amctv.com. The best of the short films will air in a half-hour prime time special, Short Screamers with Clive Barker. The festival will also feature AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS (Sunday, 10/26 @ 6 pm), ALIEN RESURRECTION (Sunday, 10/26 @ 8 pm) and HALLOWEEN 2-5 (marathon on Halloween Day, 8 am to 2:30 am). AMC will support MonsterFest with interactive, real time online games at www.amctv.com, a national sweepstakes- "MonsterFest Movie Millions" – and special local ad sales contests and prizes.
