FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact:
In celebration of the work of one of the most talented and respected jazz vocalists of our time, Cox Communications together with Bravo, The Film and Arts Network, bring a “little” jazz to this year’s Newport, Rhode Island International Film Festival with a live music performance by Little Jimmy Scott on Sunday, June 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at The Hotel Viking (1 Bellevue). The event is OPEN to the public and is part of the 3rd Annual Newport, Rhode Island International Film Festival taking place June 6-11. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased at the door of The Hotel Viking on June 11.
Prior to the live performance, Bravo will screen its original documentary Bravo Profiles: Little Jimmy Scott, the network’s tribute to the jazz legend, which premiered on Bravo in 1999. Bravo Profiles: Little Jimmy Scott mixes one-of-a-kind tracks with extensive, candid interviews with Scott himself-plus family, friends and fellow musicians including Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Lou Reed, Alec Baldwin, David Lynch, Ruth Brown, Joe Pesci and Frankie Valli. Though the latter’s distinct high vocals propelled his group to fame, Scott’s near falsetto voice with a little sobbing catch never lifted him beyond cult status. After a lifetime of struggle, Little Jimmy Scott has finally won recognition and praise for his work throughout the world.
“Little Jimmy Scott is a world-renowned entertainer and jazz legend,” commented Greg Bicket, Vice President and General Manager for Cox Communications. “We are thrilled to partner with Bravo to showcase his talents locally to the Newport community and to bring the excitement of the Newport Film Festival to Cox Communications customers.”
Little Jimmy Scott is also celebrating the release of Holding Back The Years, his debut album for Artist Only! Records. Scott offers unique interpretations of contemporary favorites like Elton John’s Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, John Lennon’s Jealous Guy, and a moving rendition of Prince’s Nothing Compares to You.
Continuing its support of the Newport International Film Festival, The Independent Film Channel (IFC), Bravo’s sister network, will join Cox Communications in hosting the opening ceremonies on June 6. Cox Communications will also be providing live coverage of the opening-night ceremonies with a one-hour telecast from the Jane Pickens Theater, beginning at 6:00 PM on Cox 3 in Rhode Island.
