NEW YORK, NY, May 22, 2007 – VOOM HD Networks, the world's largest and most diverse suite of HD channels, announced today the appointment of David Alworth to vice president of operations and program administration. Alworth was most recently vice president of operations for Rainbow Sports Networks. In his new role, he will be responsible for operational and business affairs related activities for VOOM HD Networks' 15 HD channels, VOOM's global channel, and its ongoing content sales operations. In addition, he will oversee production negotiation and management, content delivery, rights management and administration. Alworth reports directly to Glenn Oakley, senior vice president of global operations and business development for VOOM HD Networks.
"With his unique skill set and more than 30 years of hands-on industry experience, Dave will be a valuable asset to our team," said Oakley. "VOOM fills an important content void within the global marketplace where the trend toward HDTV is ascending at such a fast pace. Having Dave on board will open up even more opportunities for audiences to experience VOOM HD."
Prior to joining Rainbow, Alworth was executive vice president of ACTV, Inc., a digital media company focused on interactive television and enhanced media. From 1983-1995, Alworth held various broadcast and production positions with Major League Baseball (MLB), including vice president of production management and executive director of broadcasting. As executive director, he was responsible for administering MLB's then $1.5 billion national television and radio agreements. He was the lead negotiator in 1993 for MLB in renewing the national cable television agreement with ESPN, the national radio agreement with CBS Radio and in establishing The Baseball Network (TBN) partnership with ABC and NBC. He then served as vice president of broadcasting and production management for TBN, where he was responsible for production and operations of all TBN baseball telecasts. Earlier in his career, Alworth served as broadcast operations control manager for NBC Television Network and as a staff production associate for NBC Sports. From 1979 through 1981, Alworth was manager of network operations for Home Box Office (HBO). His career began in 1976 at Suburban Cablevision in New Jersey as production manager.
