Fox Sports Net’s collegiate basketball season tips-off with a local contest as new DePaul head coach Dave Leitao and his Blue Demons travel to Northern Illinois University to take on the Huskies on Saturday, November 23 at 5:30 PMM. Also in November, head coach Jimmy Collins and the UIC Flames host Eastern Illinois on Sunday, November 24 at 4:00 PM (please note the attached for a complete schedule of games).
This season’s college basketball schedule on Fox Sports Net features 149 games – 82 men’s and 67 women’s. MEN’S BASKETBALL
The 82-game 2002-03 men’s basketball season on Fox Sports Net is highlighted by contests with the following teams and conferences:
DePaul Blue Demons – In addition to the November 23 contest against NIU, the Blue Demons will be featured in seven additional match-ups highlighted by a home and home series with conference nemesis and #23 pre-season ranked Cincinnati Bearcats (Jan. 8 & 29), along with #18 pre-season ranked Marquette (Feb. 12).
Atlantic Coast Conference – Fox Sports Net tips off its second season of exclusive Sunday night ACC Conference basketball on Dec. 1 with Temple at Wake Forest. It’s the first of a 19-game men’s package and five-game women’s schedule under the FSN ACC SUNDAY NIGHT HOOPS banner during the 2002-03 season.
Defending NCAA champ Maryland makes four appearances on FSN (Dec. 29 vs. Georgia Tech, Feb. 16 vs. Wake Forest, Mar. 2 at N.C. St., Mar. 9 at Virginia), while perennial contender Duke is featured five times (Dec. 29 vs. Dayton, Jan. 5 at Clemson, Jan. 12 vs. Wake Forest, Feb. 2 at Florida St., Feb. 9 vs. Clemson). To set the stage for the ACC season, FSN airs one-hour pre-season specials for both the men and women on Sunday, Nov. 24. The ACC Women’s Basketball Preview is set for 6:00 PM, with the men’s preview following at 7:00 PM. Plus, during the season, prior to each game, FSN airs a half-hour college basketball wrap-up show covering the latest news and highlights.
Former ACC Player and Rookie of the Year Mike Gminski joins the Fox Sports Net telecast team this season as the lead analyst and will work alongside veteran play-by-play man Thom Brennaman and sideline reporter Lewis Johnson, who both return for the second season of FSN’s ACC package.
A total of six double-headers are scheduled, including a men’s and women’s twin bill on Feb. 16 that debuts the women’s portion of the FSN schedule with Clemson facing North Carolina at 4:30 PM. The nightcap pits Wake Forest at Maryland in a battle of men’s powerhouses at 7:00 PM.
The Horizon League – The second year of the Horizon League features two Chicago favorites as Westinghouse H.S. teammates Cedric Banks and Martell Bailey look to take the UIC Flames back to the NCAA Tournament.
