Fox Sports Net’s schedule of weekly NASCAR programming and event telecasts kicks off during SpeedWeeks as part of extensive coverage of the Daytona 500 in February.
Four weekly originally-produced NASCAR news and highlights studio shows comprise the core of the national cable network’s NASCAR coverage. Weekly race telecasts, including Winston Cup qualifying, practice rounds and ARCA events, bolster FSN’s NASCAR schedule. The highlight of the event schedule is first-ever live coverage of the Gatorade Twin 125’s, the qualifying races for the Daytona 500, on Thursday, Feb. 15. Each Monday afternoon, FSN also replays all of the NASCAR Winston Cup races airing on the FOX broadcast network and sister cable channel FX.
“Our schedule of exclusive studio programming gives NASCAR fans a complete look at all the news, highlights and stories developing from the tracks,” said Frank Sinton, VP Programming, Fox Sports Net. “And if weekends aren’t enough, our extensive event coverage provides viewers with live, mid-week NASCAR action.”
FSN’s signature NASCAR show is TOTALLY NASCAR, which telecasts Monday through Friday from 6:00-6:30 PM local time. The program debuts Feb. 12 and runs through the entire NASCAR schedule, concluding on Nov. 16. Steve Byrnes, recently named a pit reporter for FOX and FX’s NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series coverage, hosts the weeknight NASCAR news show, along with insight from FOX/FX analysts Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds. The show originates from studios in Charlotte and is produced by Wheeler Television.
NASCAR THIS MORNING telecasts live each Sunday from 10:30 AM-12 Noon ET, providing comprehensive pre-race coverage of that day’s NASCAR Winston Cup Series race. The show debuts Feb. 11 and runs until June 24. From 10:00 to10:30 AM, preceding NASCAR THIS MORNING, NASCAR TECH airs as a yearlong look at the technical side of NASCAR. Both shows, which will name hosts soon, are produced by NASCAR Images.
We will work closely with both Wheeler Television and NASCAR Images to put the FOX touch on the NASCAR programming each group produces for us,” said Bill Borson, VP Production, Fox Sports Net. “Having the shows based in Charlotte was important. We understand where the expertise for the sport is located, which gives us credibility, but we’ll also use FOX’s successful style of combining entertainment, sports and information to make sure these shows are fun to watch for our NASCAR audience.”
The wrap up of all the NASCAR events each Sunday is NASCAR VICTORY LANE, which is also produced by NASCAR Images. The live, 60-minute studio program premieres Sunday, Feb. 11, 9:00-10:00 PM local time, and runs through June 24.
Fox Sports Net’s live event telecasts begin Feb. 9 and 10 with the Winston Cup practice rounds, part of six days of FSN coverage prior to the Daytona 500. Qualifying coverage starts on Feb. 24 from Rockingham, NC. Coverage of the Feb. 9 practice from Daytona is the first NASCAR telecast for the FOX, FX, FSN triumvirate.
Other race coverage includes three ARCA races in May and June.
FSN’s Winston Cup replays telecast Mondays from 12 noon-3 PM local time.
“This comprehensive NASCAR package on Fox Sports Net furthers our commitment to providing viewers with the high quality sports coverage they have come to expect,” said Steve Liverani, senior vice president and general manager, Fox Sports Net Ohio. “The NASCAR programming and event telecasts are a wonderful addition to our line-up.”
