(SUNRISE, FL) – Fox Sports Net Florida, the exclusive television rights holder for Marlins baseball, today announced a comprehensive 99-game telecast schedule for the 2002 Florida Marlins season. Viewers throughout the state will enjoy a cable schedule of 96-game regular season and three Spring Training match ups on Fox Sports Net Florida. (Complete Marlins cable telecast schedule follows).
Fox Sports Net’s Spring Training coverage of the Marlins features live Grapefruit League match ups against the New York Mets on Monday, March 18 (1:00pm), the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, March 23 (1:00pm), and the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, March 27 (6:00pm). All televised Spring Training games will originate from Space Coast Stadium in Melbourne.
The 2002 regular season opens on Fox Sports Net Tuesday, April 2 at 6:30pm in Montreal with the MARLINS ON DECK pre-game show. The Marlins then take the field at 7:00pm to battle the Expos. Fox Sports Net Florida’s Marlins telecast schedule features 48 home and 48 away match ups. Telecast schedule highlights include three games against the World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks, 11 match ups against Chipper Jones, Gary Sheffield, and the Atlanta Braves, five meetings with the San Francisco Giants, featuring the 2001 National League MVP and single-season home run king Barry Bonds, and a total of 16 games against Mike Piazza’s New York Mets. This season’s interleague match ups include visits by the Cleveland Indians and cross-state rival – the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Calling Florida Marlins games for the 2002 season will be Len Kasper. A past member of the Milwaukee Brewers broadcasting team, Kasper shares the Fox Sports Net broadcast booth for the first time with Tommy Hutton. A former Major League Baseball player and broadcasting veteran, Hutton returns for his sixth season as Fox Sports Net’s color analyst for Marlins telecasts. Craig Minervini, in his first season with Fox Sports Net, hosts the MARLINS ON DECK pre-game show, offering a unique perspective with pre-game insight and analysis prior to each game televised by the network. Minervini will also host MARLINS WEEKLY and serve as an in-game reporter during Marlins telecasts.
Fox Sports Net’s director for Marlins telecasts, Jim Holly, returns to the production truck for his fifth season with the team and 23rd season directing live sports events for broadcast television. Game coverage producer Jeff Brenner, who enters his fourth season working Marlins telecasts joins Holly for all games produced by the regional network.
