CHICAGO – After its historic coverage of Khalid Khannouchi setting a new world record last year, FOX Sports Net returns with its extensive live coverage of one of the nation’s premier running events, The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. FOX Sports Net’s coverage of the 23rd running of the marathon will air on Sunday, October 22, beginning at 7:00 AM. The marathon telecast will be repeated on Monday, October 23 at 7:30 PM.
Calling the start-to-finish action in this year’s race of 30,000+ participants will be the veteran announcing team of anchor Charlie Jones and analysts Frank Shorter and Joan Benoit-Samuelson. Former marathon standouts Tim Hutchings and Marian Sutton will serve as course reporters following the male and female leaders, along with FOX Sports Net Chicago’s Eric Collins and Megan Mawicke providing on-site reports throughout the city.
“After capturing a world record-setting performance last year, the excitement level for the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon has never been greater,” said James J. Corno, FOX Sports Net Chicago’s Senior Vice President/General Manager. “We’re once again looking forward to giving our viewers the opportunity to watch many of the worlds’ greatest athletes compete on the streets of our great city.”
In addition to the live airing of the marathon, FOX Sports Net viewers will also be treated to a Chicago Marathon Preview Special. The half-hour program, hosted by Collins and Mawicke, will showcase a number of features and interviews with participants and marathon organizers. The special will also highlight a preview of the course and a profile of last year’s men’s champion Khannouchi of Morocco, as well as the strong women’s field contending for a first place finish. The preview special can be seen on Monday, October 16 at 7:30 PM, with repeat airings on Wednesday, October 18 at 9:00 PM and Friday, October 20 at 2:30 PM.
