NEW YORK, NY (MARCH 13, 2020) IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring U.S. rights to THE NEST, written and directed by award-winning director Sean Durkin (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE) starring Jude Law (CAPTAIN MARVEL, SHERLOCK HOLMES), Carrie Coon (“Leftovers”, GONE GIRL), Charlie Shotwell (TROOP ZERO), and Oona Roche (“The Morning Show”). The film had its world premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the Premieres Section, and marks Durkin’s first feature since the critically acclaimed MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE in 2011. THE NEST was produced by Ed Guiney, Derrin Schlesinger, Rose Garnett, Sean Durkin, Amy Jackson, and Christina Piovesan. Executive produced by Andrew Lowe, Polly Stokes, Jude Law, Ben Browning, Glen Basner, Alison Cohen, and Milan Popelka, with co-producers Kasia Malipan and Noah Segal. Developed with BBC Films, THE NEST was financed by FilmNation Entertainment and BBC Films with further backing from Telefilm Canada. IFC Films will be releasing THE NEST theatrically in Fall 2020, and FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales.
Charismatic entrepreneur Rory (Jude Law), relocates his wife Allison (Carrie Coon) and their children Sam and Ben from suburban America to his native England with ambitious dreams of profiting from booming 1980’s London. While Rory thrives chasing lofty deals in the city, Allison and the kids struggle to adapt. Once a businesswoman in her own right, Allison finds herself idle and resuming the role of housewife in a run-down mansion they can’t afford to furnish. As the eerie isolation of their new home drives the family further apart, and the promise of a lucrative new beginning starts to unravel, Rory and Allison have to face the unwelcome truths lying beneath the surface of their marriage.
