New York, NY September 22, 2011 – IFC Midnight announced today that the company is acquiring all rights in North America, Malaysia, and Singapore to directors Adrian and Romero Garcia Bogliano’s PENUMBRA. The film, with a screenplay also by Adrian and Romero, stars Cristina Brondo, Camila Bordonaba, and Berta Muniz, and was executive produced by Horacio and Esteban Mentasti and Alberto Trigo. The film will make its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2011.
PENUMBRA is a thriller set in Argentina on the day of a solar eclipse. Marga is a beautiful, hard-nosed lawyer looking to rent out an apartment she recently inherited in an old, decrepit building. The very first person she meets is a suspicious man whose boss wants the apartment at all costs. Not wanting to lose out on a big payday she agrees and waits for the boss to arrive. As the eclipse encroaches above, Marga begins to notice mysterious occurences in and around the building that lead her to wonder what these people want with her and this apartment on such a unique day… What awaits her is horrific and shocking.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: "We’ve been big fans of Adrian and Romero Garcia Bogliano since we saw COLD SWEAT. We’re thrilled to be in business with them on PENUMBRA, which shows them only growing stronger as filmmakers. Cristina Bondo gives an amazing performance as the Boglianos slowly and expertly turn up the dread and tension in this thrilling film."
The deal for the film was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman, Manager of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Nate Botolin at XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
