The IFC Original Documentary Wanderlust will premiere on the network on Monday, May 29 at 9pm ET/10 pm PT. The film explores the cinematic fascination with the American road, combining interviews, film clips, music, photography, literature and a narrative storyline to create a uniquely structured non-fiction film. Ultimately the film poses a question: does the American road still promise us an open sense of freedom and liberation as it did in so many great films? Or, has the adventure of the road ultimately been reduced to the stuff of Hollywood lore?
Wanderlust includes interviews with cinema luminaries: Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider), Alexander Payne (About Schmidt), Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien), Allison Anders (Gas, Food, Lodging), Barry Levinson (Rainman), David O. Russell (Flirting with Disaster), Gus Van Sant (My Own Private Idaho), Mira Nair (Mississippi Masala), Peter Bogdanovich (Paper Moon), Callie Khouri (Thelma and Louise), Monte Hellman (Two Lane Blacktop), Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries), Robert Benton (Bonnie and Clyde), Sam Shepard (Paris, Texas), and Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas) and stars Paul Rudd (The 40 Year Old Virgin), Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent) and Kat Dennings (The 40 Year Old Virgin).
Wanderlust is directed by the award-winning filmmaking team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor). IFC's Alison Palmer Bourke and Evan Shapiro are executive producers.
