IFC will premiere the feature-length documentary Yo Soy Boricua, Pa Que Tu Lo Sepas! (I'm Boricua, Just So You Know!) directed by actress Rosie Perez (Do the Right Thing, White Men Can't Jump), on Monday, June 12, 2006 at 9pm ET/10pm PT. In her directorial debut, Perez celebrates Puerto Rican pride in an alternately shocking and humorous documentary narrated by actor Jimmy Smits (The West Wing, NYPD Blue). The film puts the themes of family, language, and racism into a historical perspective and uncovers the complex and controversial history between Puerto Rico and the United States. Perez and her collaborators travel to New York, Miami and Puerto Rico to document what it really means to be "Boricua."
Academy Award-nominated producer Liz Garbus (Girlhood, The Farm: Angola, USA, The Execution of Wanda Jean) and Emmy-nominated producer Rory Kennedy (A Boy's Life, Pandemic, American Hollow) produce. IFC's Alison Palmer Bourke and Evan Shapiro are executive producers.
