Compromise, poverty, disillusionment and suicide…Just a few of the indignities of independent filmmaking. The Independent Film Channel (IFC) presents For Love of Cinema, a collection of films representing the personal efforts and sacrifices of making independent movies, airs Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 beginning at 8:00PM(ET). Find just how much suffering filmmakers will endure for their art with a festival of both fictional and non-fictional accounts of the plight of the independent filmmaker.
American Movie: The Making of Midwestern, directed by Chris Smith and the cornerstone of IFC's For Love of Cinema, centers on low-budget filmmaker/horror buff, Mark Borchardt and his labor of love. Spanning over two years of intense struggle with his film, family, financial decline, and spiritual crisis, the documentary is a portrayal of ambition, obsession, excess, and one man's quest for the American dream.
