Premieres Thursday, August 1
Celebrity Appearances Include
David Duchovny, Jack Black and Gina Gershon, Among Others
The documentary genre has become THE definitive format for independent films, providing an edgy and passionate view of the environment surrounding the artist. The Independent Film Channel (IFC) presents Independent Film: A Documentary, an eight-part series showcasing the grueling heartache and triumphant joy of filmmaking, premiering Thursday, August 1.
Written, directed and starring Michael McKean (This is Spinal Tap, Primetime Glick), Independent Film: A Documentary features cameos from today's hottest celebrities, many of whom found their roots in independent films. Special appearances include David Duchovny (The X-Files), Gina Gershon (The Insider), Howard Hesseman (About Schmidt), Kyle Sullivan (All That), Jack Black (Shallow Hal), Eugene Levy (American Pie), Parker Posey (Best in Show), Donal Logue (The Chateau), Ed Begley, Jr. (Diary of a Sex Addict), Annette O'Toole (Temptation), Bijou Phillips (Almost Famous), Scott Lasky (Celebrity Adventures), musicians Richard Greene, Bela Fleck and seven-time Grammy Award winner T-Bone Burnett. In addition to the intensive labor and artistic dedication that is involved in independent filmmaking, the subject matter also encompasses key film essentials such as the music; the ever-growing and priceless collection of independent film paraphernalia; and the poignant and moving correspondence from legendary past and present directors.
Truth be told, Independent Film: A Documentary is the IFC 2002 new image campaign, which really was written by, directed by and stars Michael McKean. As a follow-up to the network's notable "Christie" and award-winning "Boris" promotional campaigns, the 30- to 60-second satirical spots are an extreme look at mock-umentary filmmaking. "The Project," the first of the eight spots, premieres Thursday, August 1 with new promos scheduled to air every four weeks on IFC, Bravo, the IFC sister network, and nationwide in arthouse theaters.
The Independent Film Channel (IFC) is the first and most widely distributed channel dedicated to independent film presented 24 hours a day, uncut and commercial-free. IFC Entertainment, a division of IFC, consists of IFC Productions, a feature film production company; IFC Films, a theatrical film distribution company; Next Wave Films, established to provide finishing funds and other vital support to emerging filmmakers; and IFC Originals, which produces cutting-edge original programming for the network. In addition, IFC Productions launched InDigEnt, an initiative that helps established filmmakers shoot productions on digital video. For more information, viewers can log on to www.IFCTV.com.
