Not just any film ditty, The Independent Film Channel (IFC) celebrates extraordinary independent films and their featured tunes with INDIE ROCKS, airing every Saturday from September 6 to September 27 beginning at 10:00PM/ET. The alt-rock band, THE FLAMING LIPS, host this year's music/film celebration.
Headlining INDIE ROCKS is the IFC network premiere of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders from Mars. Directed by D.A. Pennebaker, the July 3, 1973 concert by David Bowie at London's Hammersmith Odeon Theatre is the subject of this documentary. Intercut with behind the scenes footage, the film concerns the actual concert where Bowie performed for the final time under the Ziggy Stardust persona – an announcement that, at the time, led many fans to mistakenly believe Bowie was retiring altogether. This "final" performance features a lineup of many of Bowie's greatest hits. The film/soundtrack debuts at number one, kicking off the festival on Saturday, September 6 at 10:00PM/ET.
