Weekly Strand Expands to Two Nights a Week Every Wednesday and Sunday

Network Premiere of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Debuting Wednesday, January 1 at 9:00PM/ET, John Cameron Mitchell, director and star of the cult film and musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, will host The Independent Film Channel (IFC) film strand ESCAPE FROM HOLLYWOOD, the network's homage to the rapidly growing number of independent films. The strand, originally hosted by the late Ted Demme, celebrates films that have gone above and beyond to make indelible marks in the Hollywood blockbuster world. The strand kicks off with the network premiere of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ringing in the New Year on Wednesday, January 1 at 9:00PM/ET.

An adaptation of Rolling Stone writer Hunter S. Thompson's novel and directed by Terry Gilliam (Twelve Monkeys), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas details Thompson's road trip across the Mojave Desert from Los Angeles to Las Vegas with his lawyer. As the pair desperately search for the "American Dream" and fueled by a suitcase full of drugs, the two encounter the police, reporters, gamblers, racers and hitchhikers on their journey only to find fear, loathing and adventure in the modern American West. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas stars Johnny Depp (Blow) and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic).

The Independent Film Channel (IFC) is the first and most widely distributed channel dedicated to independent film presented 24 hours a day, uncut and commercial-free. IFC Entertainment, a division of IFC, consists of IFC Productions, a feature film production company; IFC Films, a theatrical film distribution company; and IFC Originals, which produces cutting-edge original programming for the network. In addition, IFC Productions launched InDigEnt, an initiative that helps established filmmakers shoot productions on digital video.
