MuchMusic USA Announces 2002 ‘Class Dismissed’); Promotion with the Goo Goo Dolls

Successful 2001 Alanis Morissette “Class Dismissed” contest leaves MSOs asking for more

MuchMusic USA offers national promotion to help support cable operators in selling high-speed access and cable modems

Western Cable Show – Anaheim, CA – November 27, 2001 – Rainbow Media’s MuchMusic USA, the nation’s only viewer-driven all music network, has teamed up once again with TIDAL4, Inc., a convergence production company, to bring MSOs “Class Dismissed 2002” featuring the Goo Goo Dolls. MuchMusic USA’s “Class Dismissed” national promotion is a unique on-air and online concert event that includes a contest for viewers to create their own Goo Goo Dolls video online and a live, exclusive performance by the band.

“MuchMusic USA received an overwhelmingly positive response from the cable operators who participated in the 2001 ‘Class Dismissed’ with Alanis Morissette,” said Lisa Schwartz, senior vice president of affiliate sales and marketing for MuchMusic USA. “This level of interactivity and convergence programming marks the network’s commitment to creating innovative, multi-platform content that will help drive the adoption of high speed access and cable modems.”

This past October, Elyse Bellamy from Plainfield, VT, was totally shocked when MuchMusic USA and local cable operator Charter Communications brought Alanis Morissette to her science class to hang out and give a performance for the school. It is a day that Elyse and all of her schoolmates will remember for the rest of their lives.

“The Alanis Morissette ‘Class Dismissed’ contest with MuchMusic USA was really great. It was well handled, well thought out and well promoted. It will definitely help us sell high-speed services,” said Peter Gorga, business manager for Charter Communications. “We have a lot of people in our service area that need and want high speed access and this contest really gives these services a value.”

“I think this MuchMusic USA promotion will help sell our digital product, said Cindy Ely, customer care supervisor, Charter Communications. “All the kids are going to go home and tell their parents ‘We saw Alanis Morissette and we want to see ourselves on MuchMusic USA’.”
