NEW YORK — New figures just released by Nielsen Media Research at the end of July show that muchmusic usa, the only viewer driven music network, earned over 500,000 new household subscriptions in the last month, making it the fastest-growing music network and second among all networks in household subscriber growth from January 2002 to date.
Since January 2002, muchmusic usa has grown from 18.3 million subs to 26.7 million subs, an increase of 8.4 million, which represents a forty-six percent increase in growth.
These positive figures for muchmusic usa announced this week come despite an overall decrease among the majority of the monitored networks for the second consecutive month.
muchmusic usa began receiving ratings by Nielsen in January, 2002.
“The growth we have seen in muchmusic usa over such a short period of time shows that our vision to create a completely viewer driven music network is working,” muchmusic usa President Marc Juris stated. “Our heavily interactive model that combines cutting edge programming with a state of the art website empowers our viewers so their voice can be heard and so they control which artists are showcased and what music is played.”
“Kids today have become more selective with the music programming they want to see and now demand a greater opportunity to express themselves. muchmusic usa is the only music network that truly recognizes this important fact and the numbers released by Neilsen, prove that we have begun to tap an important nerve with this key youth demographic,” Juris continued. “With a revolutionary fall campaign in the works, we’re confident that many more young viewers will be attracted to muchmusic usa’s brand in the months to come.”
