Rainbow Media’s President and C.E.O., Josh Sapan, will deliver the keynote address at the Kagan Video-On-Demand Summit on Wednesday, April 17th at 9:00 a.m. Outlining his vision for content in an on-demand world, Mr. Sapan’s remarks will include a new model for programming/distribution. The Summit will bring together leading industry executives from the programming, technology and distributor sectors to review the present VOD business climate, analyze the emerging trends in the industry, investigate the new strategic relationships being forged between content owners and content distributors, and explore the key issues confronting the future of on-demand.
Last year, Mr. Sapan led the launch of Rainbow’s Mag Rack, the latest innovation in VOD programming, providing viewers with the nation’s first and only service that delivers original content that is designed and produced exclusively for VOD. Mag Rack explores, in-depth, a wide range of topics that are unavailable elsewhere on television and continues Rainbow’s long-held vision of personalized and targeted television programming. Just like at a newsstand, customers can choose from Mag Rack’s ever-expanding selection of video “magazines” that offer authoritative content about subjects that are personally relevant – ranging from science, bird watching and wine to photography, weddings and vegetarian cooking. By utilizing the 21st century technology of VOD, Mag Rack is defining the future of television, giving viewers the power to pick and choose the programming they want to see, when they want to see it. Currently, the service is being marketed to cable operators to support their effort in rolling out digital set-top boxes and driving VOD adoption.
Recognized as one of the cable industry’s niche programming innovators, as President and CEO of Rainbow Media Holdings, Inc., Mr. Sapan has overseen the expansion of the Bravo cable network from 350,000 to 65 million subscribers and American Movies Classics’ (AMC) growth from an audience of 10 million to 82 million homes. In addition to AMC and Bravo, under Mr. Sapan’s leadership, Rainbow’s national portfolio has grown to include targeted niche networks such as The Independent Film Channel, the first and leading television network devoted exclusively to films made outside the Hollywood studio system; WE: Women’s Entertainment, one of the fastest growing new cable channels devoted to women; and MuchMusic USA, a groundbreaking viewer-driven music network, the only independent voice on the music television landscape.
