JERICHO, NY – August 6, 2002 – Rainbow Sports Networks, a division of Rainbow Media Holdings, Inc., today announced the appointment of David Alworth as vice president, operations. He will report to Andrea Greenberg, president of Rainbow Sports Networks.
In his new role, Alworth, 47, will be responsible for providing operational direction and oversight for Rainbow's regional sports networks in Chicago, Florida, New England, Ohio and San Francisco. He will work closely with Rainbow's partners at Fox Sports Net and be part of the team responsible for identifying and executing new business strategies that enhance Rainbow's sports portfolio.
"Dave has more than 25 years of hands-on industry experience and a deep knowledge of sports television that will make him a key player at Rainbow Sports Networks," said Andrea Greenberg, president, Rainbow Sports Networks. "As part of the senior management team, he will help to ensure that our regional businesses and national partnerships are running efficiently and that we're properly positioned for continued success and future growth."
Prior to joining Rainbow, Alworth was executive vice president of ACTV, Inc., a digital media company focused on interactive television and enhanced media. From 1983-1995, Alworth held various broadcast and production positions with Major League Baseball (MLB), including vice president of production management and executive director of broadcasting. As executive director, he was responsible for administering MLB's then $1.5 billion national television and radio agreements.
He was the lead negotiator in 1993 for MLB in renewing the national cable television agreement with ESPN, the national radio agreement with CBS Radio and in establishing The Baseball Network (TBN) partnership with ABC and NBC. He then served as vice president of broadcasting and production management for TBN, where he was responsible for production and operations of all TBN baseball telecasts.
Earlier in his career, Alworth served as broadcast operations control manager for NBC Television Network and as a staff production associate for NBC Sports. From 1979 through 1981, Alworth was manager of network operations for Home Box Office (HBO). His career began in 1976 at Suburban Cablevision in New Jersey as production manager.
