Romance Classics Goes BEHIND THE DOOR with ELIZABETH ARDEN in November

BETHPAGE, NEW YORK, September 28, 2000  — The complex life of beauty maven
Elizabeth Arden is brought to the small screen when Romance Classics premiers the
one-hour documentary ELIZABETH ARDEN:
BEHIND THE RED DOOR
, on
Sunday, November 26 at 7:15 PM (ET).

Chronicling Arden‘s life from
her humble beginnings in Canada,
where she was known as Florence
Nightingale Graham
, to the time of her
death in 1966, ELIZABETH ARDEN: BEHIND THE
RED DOOR
documents the creative and often
courageous maneuvers Arden made to
achieve the highest level of success in the beauty
industry.  Through film reels, photographs and
interviews with those who knew her the best, the
special will give an inside look into Arden’s
rags-to-riches story.  A Canadian native,
Arden
fled from her destined life
as a produce farmer at a young age.  She
learned the shrewd art of selling while flogging produce on the city markets.  She soon began to
experiment in creating beauty creams and parlayed her street smarts into the cosmetics industry.

Equipped with immeasurable ambition, a fine
figure and good looks, she took her talents to
New York City.  Over the
years, Arden held a series of odd
jobs, but never lost focus.  Before long, she
partnered with Elizabeth Hubbard in
the ownership of a beauty salon on Fifth Avenue,
soon bought her out, and took on her first
name.  This was the first of many cunning
business decisions that would brand the
Arden
empire.

Arden‘s calculated business
ways also translated into her personal life.
She married a prominent banker and became an
important figure in the world of equestrian
sports.  She found no greater love in her life than that for her horses —  one of whom was
the winner of the 1947 Kentucky Derby.
ELIZABETH ARDEN:  BEHIND THE RED DOOR
will show the triumph of an unlikely heroin
that changed the face of American women, and paved many paths for women for years to come.
