NEW YORK, NY, October 18, 2005 -VOOM HD Networks, the largest and most diverse suite of HD channels nationwide, announced today the appointment of Sharon J. Kahn as Vice President of Communications. Kahn is charged with building upon the successful launch of VOOM’s current roster of ten HD services, previously announced in August 2005, and for creating consumer public relations and promotional campaigns for the additional HD channels scheduled to launch in early 2006. She reports to Ellen Kroner, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Marketing for Rainbow Media.
Last winter, VOOM HD announced its distribution agreement with Echostar Communications to carry ten of the HD channels on its Dish Network. Since then, it has gone on to produce groundbreaking original HD content for a wide variety of consumer interests ranging from a one-of-a-kind live memorabilia auction on Gallery HD to delivering the world of fashion on ULTRA HD. Most recently, VOOM HD solidified international distribution in Singapore. On the heels of all of this, Kahn’s appointment confirms VOOM’s commitment to growing and to investing in the brand’s aggressive move into the marketplace.
“We are delighted to have recruited someone, with so much impressive experience in promoting diverse media entities, to join the Rainbow PR staff” said Kroner. “Sharon will be an integral part of the team that oversees the big picture for Voom HD Networks moving forward.”
Kahn brings extensive credentials in creating media strategies in the entertainment arena. She was a founding partner in the New York-based Kahn & Jacobs Public Relations and Marketing, where she handled a roster of consumer and corporate campaigns in film, television, music and games, for clients including Lions Gate, USA Films, HBO, PBS, TV5, Atlantic Records, the IFP/NY, the New York Film Critics Circle. Following a stint as Senior Vice President of Publicity and Promotions at Fox Searchlight, she has spent the past five years as an international media strategy consultant, based in Los Angeles and New York.
Recent campaigns have included world-wide press strategy for Anne Aghion’s seminal documentaries on post-genocide issues in Rwanda, which aired on the Sundance Channel and ARTE and NHK. The second of these films, “In Rwanda We Say… The Family That Does Not Speak, Dies,” earned a 2005 Emmy Award. Other highlights include sports publicity for the award-winning action-documentary “Faster,” about world championship motorcycle-racing, and field publicity for the controversial Oscar-nominee “Capturing the Friedmans.”
