Day-and-Date Asia, Europe and US Premieres on April 20, 2010
New York, March 9, 2010 – In commemoration of Earth Day, Sundance Channel will present to its viewers a new season of its original green series, "The Lazy Environmentalist." Season two of the award winning series will kick off in Asia, Europe and the United States on Tuesday, April 20, just two days before the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.
Winner of the 2009 Environmental Media Association Award for "Best Reality Show," "The Lazy Environmentalist" is ideal TV fare to help viewers ring in Earth Day. The half-hour, primetime series – hosted by eco-entrepreneur and author Josh Dorfman – showcases Dorfman’s credo that greening the planet doesn’t have to be complicated, even for self-described "lazy environmentalists" like him. Each episode operates on the theory that consumers should not settle for an expensive and/or inferior product simply because it is environmentally-friendly.
"I’m very excited about our second season, which I think carries the lazy environmentalist ethos into some unexpected, yet relevant, places," said Dorfman. "Admittedly, I prefer convenience, so the show for me has two simple goals: one is to help viewers find green solutions that are easy, attractive and actually improve their daily lives; the other is to have fun with the entire process and keep a light spirit. In other words, if you’re thinking about bringing a microwave on your camping trip – or just want to meet a person who would – this is a show for you."
In the eight-part season two, Dorfman (who penned The Lazy Environmentalist: Your Guide to Easy, Stylish, Green Living and The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget) makes his case to an offbeat roster of conservation skeptics, and demonstrates that a green approach can easily translate into any profession or lifestyle. From fashion designers and exterminators to surfers and day care center operators, Dorfman works with the series’ widely ranging cast to prove that eco-friendly living can not only be completed with little sacrifice, but can also make professional and private lives easier for those who participate.
"The Lazy Environmentalist" is produced for Sundance Channel by Free Range Media; executive producers are David Metzler and Josh Dorfman.
Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, Sundance Channel (www.SundanceChannel.com) reaches more than 33 million subscribers in the U.S. and recently launched in France, Belgium, Singapore and Korea.
About Josh Dorfman
Josh Dorfman is an environmental entrepreneur, media personality and author of The Lazy Environmentalist: Your Guide to Easy, Stylish, Green Living and The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget. He is also the founder and CEO of Vivavi and of ModernGreenLiving.com, Vivavi’s residential search directory for consumers seeking green homes. As an advocate for positive environmental change, Josh also serves as spokesperson for Brita’s FilterForGood campaign to help reduce bottled water waste and for Green Works, Clorox’s line of natural cleaning products. Josh holds an MBA from Thunderbird, The School of Global Management, and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. Dorfman’s environmental epiphany came while living in China during the 1990’s to launch Kryptonite Bicycle Locks’ sales and marketing program. Josh saw a nation of a billion bicyclists transforming into a nation of a billion car drivers, causing potentially unprecedented stress on the global environment. How all countries enable their populations to pursue a better quality of life while bringing their lifestyles into balance with nature is a vital challenge for the 21st century and what Josh’s ventures strive to address.
