Theano Apostolou Promoted to Senior Vice President, Publicity, Talent Relations, and Promotional Events for AMC

NEW YORK, NY, March 3, 2009 – Rainbow Media announced today the promotion of Theano Apostolou to Senior Vice President of publicity, talent relations and promotional events for AMC. In this role, Apostolou continues to lead all consumer communications for the network’s programming, talent relations, award campaigns and industry events. Previously, Apostolou was AMC’s Vice President of publicity, talent relations and promotional events. She continues to report to Ellen Kroner, Executive Vice President of Communications for Rainbow Media.

"As the chief consumer communications strategist behind the delivery of basic cable’s first-ever Outstanding Drama Series EMMY and the Golden Globe, SAG and PGA awards for AMC’s Mad Men, Theano has raised the bar on creative and impactful public relations for television," said Kroner. "Under her skilled leadership, AMC’s communications strategy has helped to position the network as television’s top destination for high quality, cinematic original programming. Theano orchestrated the media campaign for AMC’s first original movie event, Broken Trail, which launched to critical acclaim and record-breaking ratings, resulting in four Emmy wins. Her creativity and focus have kept AMC’s original programming at the forefront of American culture."

AMC introduced its first original series, Mad Men in July of 2007. The series is now entering its third season. Apostolou oversaw all consumer press communications for the programming, talent and award consideration campaigns. Unprecedented success was garnered through these efforts in 2008 including a Best Actor Golden Globe for star Jon Hamm and Outstanding Television Series, Drama for AMC. History repeated itself when Mad Men was honored with its second consecutive Golden Globe win for Outstanding Series, making AMC the first cable drama ever to receive back-to-back wins in the category. The series also earned SAG, WGA and TCA nominations in 2008.

In 2009, Apostolou will oversee all consumer press efforts for the upcoming original programming slate including the launch of AMC’s second season of Breaking Bad, which premieres in March. She will also oversee the campaign for the network’s next original mini-series, The Prisoner, scheduled for a November premiere.

Before joining AMC Apostolou served as Vice President of Media Relations for the both AMC and WEtv, and the music network fuse. Earlier in her career, Apostolou worked at Dan Klores Communications in the agency’s Entertainment and Lifestyle division.

Before joining DKC, Apostolou worked in Ketchum’s consumer brand division, where she managed Maxwell House’s corporate philanthropy initiative to build 100 homes in 100 weeks with Habitat for Humanity.

Apostolou studied Art History at Rutgers College and Business Administration at LaVerne University in Athens, Greece, where she earned a Bachelors degree. She is a member of WICT, ATAS and Film Independent. She currently resides in New York City.
