New York, NY – December 4, 2007 – VOOM’s Gallery HD, the only high-definition channel devoted to the visual arts, announced today the premiere of a new original series: BEHIND THE CAMERA, an exploration of the emotional and sometimes contentious relationship between photographers and their subjects. Licensed from Cargo Film and Releasing, LLC, BEHIND THE CAMERA will launch in January 2008 with thirteen half-hour episodes. In addition, Gallery HD will premiere a second season of its critically-acclaimed hit series, ARTSTAR, later next year as well as Season Four of ART IN PROGRESS“We’re thrilled to introduce our audience to this brand new series, which not only explores a diverse genre of art, but also provides an honest and revealing look at the lives and unique craft of real artists,” said Tamar Hacker, Director of Programming and Executive Producer for VOOM’s Gallery HD. “This premiere, along with all-new seasons of the hit series ARTSTAR and ART IN PROGRESS, continues to grow our library of true HD content, which includes programs and visual art stories that appeal to and truly resonate with our viewers.”
BEHIND THE CAMERA is an insightful and candid series that delves into the hearts, minds, attitudes and views of image-makers from all walks of life. From adventurous nature shooters to glamorous celebrity photographers, the series points the lens back at the people who show us different ways to look at the world by capturing everyday images in magazines, billboards, books, film, on the web and on television. Each episode follows three artists during their hunt for compelling moments to capture, from the dangers of a war zone to the sensuous world of erotica, highlighting the drama that often ensues between the photographer and their subjects. Episodes are also packaged with unique and complimentary music, graphics and an editing style that reflects each artist’s distinctive story.
In 2008, Gallery HD will also premiere a second season if its hit series ARTSTAR, the first-ever unscripted television series set in New York’s art world. The new season will document several artists as they interact with leading art critics, collectors, curators and artists in New York and at the Scope Art Fair in Miami.
The New Year will also feature Season Four of ART IN PROGRESS, an original Gallery HD production, which documents the artistic process of popular contemporary artists, from their conceptual inspirations to the studio where the inner workings and subtleties of the artist’s craft are explored. Artists profiled in Season Four include Anish Kapoor, Anthony Caro, Robert Wilson and Takashi Murakami. Season Four will premiere in January with 10 half-hour episodes.
Gallery HD is dedicated to visual art and the artistic process. Through visually stunning imagery and compelling storytelling, Gallery HD is the first and only HD channel that defines the most talked-about artists of today and tomorrow.
