(Monday, December 22 – Woodbury, NY) Newsbytes HD, the country’s first high-definition news channel, has named William J. Wright, General Manager. Wright will report directly to Patrick Dolan, President of the News 12 Networks division for Rainbow Media Holdings LLC. Newsbytes HD is one of the 21 exclusive HD channels created by Rainbow Media, the programming subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corporation, for VOOM the Rainbow DBS satellite television service launched in October of this year.
In his new role as General Manager, Will Wright will be responsible for the entire Newsbytes HD operation, including content, personnel, and technical operations. Wright most recently served as Executive Producer at BET Nightly News where he spent more than a year and a half reestablishing the organization by utilizing the resources of CBS News. During his time there, Wright more than doubled the show’s ratings. Wright’s news background includes more than nine years as News Director at WWOR-TV in New York City, and five years as Vice President and News Director at KRIV Fox 26 in Houston, Texas. Wright also spent three years at KYW-TV in Philadelphia, four years at CNN, and nine years with CBS News.
