NEW YORK, NY, September 23, 2019 – AMC Networks’ WE tv today announced the continuation of a successful content partnership with sister company UMC (Urban Movie Channel) – the first subscription streaming service for Black TV and film – to produce a second season of “confessional” episodes of the WE tv hit series Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition, which are exclusively available to UMC subscribers and complement the underlying series.
The availability of these exclusive “confessional” episodes with Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition cast and limited promotional access to the series itself has helped drive strong subscriber growth at UMC. The content partnership has also benefitted WE tv by raising awareness of the network and its strong line-up of original programming with the UMC subscriber base. WE tv is typically the #1 cable network for African-American adults and women on Thursday nights, when the network airs franchise hits like Braxton Family Values, Growing Up Hip Hop and other original series.
UMC, which AMC Networks acquired as part of its acquisition of RLJ Entertainment last year, has also featured the WE tv series Growing Up Hip Hop and Braxton Family Values, and WE tv is currently airing the UMC series Beyond The Pole on its linear network.
“Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition has been a significant hit for WE tv, and an important addition to the Marriage Boot Camp franchise,” said Marc Juris, WE tv president. “It also presented the perfect opportunity to partner with our sister company UMC and produce ‘confessional’ cast episodes that are exclusive to UMC, helping to boost interest in the series overall and helping to drive strong subscriber gains for UMC’s streaming service. This is another good example of our company using content in a variety of ways to strengthen our distinct platforms and build viewer relationships.”
The second season of Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition will appear on WE tv early next year.
